Sand is formed by disintegration of rocks by force of water over several thousands of years. Waves from the ocean push the sand to the shore thus creating the sandy beaches.

Sand is a naturally occurring granular material composed of finely divided rock and mineral particles. It is defined by size, being finer than gravel and coarser than silt. Sand can also refer to a textural class of soil or soil type; i.e. a soil containing more than 85% sand-sized particles (by mass).

Sand is made from tiny grains of rocks and minerals. It can also be tiny particles of the shells of sea creatures. Some sand comes from the calcium (a mineral) in seaweed.
